The right to equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities is clearly defined in South African legislation. Current research however indicates that both public and private sectors are falling well short of the two percent equity target for employees with disabilities. What this shows is that while legislation provides a framework for addressing inequalities in the workplace, it cannot bring about significant change on its own. For this to happen, employers need to better understand the challenges and opportunities that exist when employing people with disabilities.
Our Recruitment Department is responsible for creating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. We rely on the support of industry to improve employment opportunities and to develop public awareness programmes for all their employees, designed to overcome negative attitudes and prejudices concerning workers with disabilities.
To assist employers, we offer a comprehensive range of disability services which have been designed to identify and remove employment barriers prevalent in the workplace.
These services include:
- Assessibility Assessments
- Employment Reports
- Recruitment Service
- Disability Sensitisation Workshops
We invite all applicants with disabilities to register with our department so that we can market them to industry in order to secure successful employment placements.
This department is growing from strength to strength and we are looking forward to the support of industry in 2011. Should you be interested please contact Laura Schrieff, Recruitment Manager, on (041) 4845426 or recruitment@apdnmb.org.za
